Since diving has entered the main stream of society, beginner divers need to find out how to buy their first gear of scuba rig. I want to share my thoughts about it. You are buying diving rid that should keep you alive while you are under water. Do NOT buy or use scuba diving rig that has not been serviced or maintained by a accredited professional. Buying scuba gear for the first time can be a little daunting, especially when there are so many selections to choose from. You will get confused from what is actually needed when buying your scuba equipment. It is very common to see. A new diving enthusiast enters the diving store and stares at the shelf filled with Mask, Snorkel and fins and their eyes kind of glaze over.
The fact is, purchasing scuba kit is not that complicated if you stay focused on what's important. You need to always remember that no matter what other divers tell you, it is your equipment and it needs to perform for your style of diving. Don't allow your purchase be determined by trivial things like color availability. I want to tell you that promise the fish does not care whether you are color coordinated or not.
In this series of articles, I'll challenge you to focus on how you'll use your equipment and stay focused on what's actually needed to achieve a safe and enjoyable dive.

If you've ever considered taking scuba diving classes but are being held back by a fear of water, rest assured that this is normal. Man wasn't made to live in water, and that's precisely why we need all that scuba equipment just to stay submerged for anything longer than a few minutes. It is healthy to be afraid because it will make you a careful scuba diver, but it shouldn't hold you back from enjoying one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling activities you can experience. This article should start you off with a few simple exercises designed to temper that fear and make you more comfortable out there in your newfound underwater world.
We spend our lives breathing through our noses, so it should come as no surprise that many people find it difficult or unnatural to breathe completely through the mouth, at least at first. A good dive mask will prevent you from breathing through your nose most of the time, but a flooded mask is a common occurrence in normal diving and you should be able to breathe through the mouth (shutting off nasal breathing completely) without undue effort. A good way to improve this skill is by swimming "freestyle." This common style of swimming makes use of mouth breathing, inhaling when the face is barely out of the water and exhaling a split second later when the face is submerged. Vigorous freestyle swimming also makes you familiar with the sensation of getting a little water in your nose without panicking, and of course it's very good all-around physical exercise.
An alternate mouth-breathing exercise is breathing through a snorkel with your face underwater. Stand in an area of the pool where the water is chest deep. Wear eye goggles instead of a mask so that your nose is exposed to the water (alternatively, since you are not going to swim, you can forego the goggles and just hold the snorkel tube to the side of your head where it will normally be attached to the mask strap). Submerge your face in the water and breathe through the snorkel without pinching your nose with your fingers.
Another exercise involving your snorkel, as well as a mask and a pair of fins, will build confidence in your ability to perform important and potentially life-preserving maneuvers underwater. Note that this exercise is potentially dangerous so make sure that all safeguards are in place before attempting this. Do it in a pool with a buddy and a lifeguard present. In a part of the pool where the water is about a foot or two deeper than you are tall, throw in your mask, snorkel and fins. Hold your breath, jump in, and recover the items, putting on the mask and clearing it, putting the fins properly on your feet, and then clearing the snorkel as you ascend slowly, looking up and making sure that there are no obstructions above you. It might take a few tries before you are able to complete it, but with perseverance, you will. The trick is to relax and take it slowly so that the air in your lungs will last longer. Beginners will usually try to hurry up, making them fumble and panic when they start running out of air.
These are just some of the things you can do to make yourself comfortable in the water, an invaluable skill to take with you as you start your scuba diving classes and start on your wonderful new hobby!

Have you ever seen a tennis match interfered due to rain? Remember the sheet of plastic that is used to cover the court? That's a tarp for you. In simple words, a tarp is a piece of water proof material. It can be a fabric like canvas or polyester that is coated with plastics like latex or PVC. Tarps are extremely durable and have hundreds of uses. But the most important and primary use is protection from weather. It may be rain, the harsh sun or a hailstorm. But a tarp will definitely protect you from all of it. If you are new to tarps and are looking to buy one for using in your garden, then this guide will prove extremely beneficial to you.
Starting off
The first and the most important aspect of choosing a tarp is the size. You need to buy a tarp according to your requirements. Buying one too small or too big will not serve the purpose. However, most people buy a tarp that is slightly bigger than what they need. Once the size is fixed, comes the grade. Tarpaulins are usually available in economy grade, medium grade and heavy duty grade. The first two should be perfect for almost all normal uses. The heavy duty ones are usually used by construction workers or for jobs that require a lot of durable cover.
Types of tarp
Canvas Tarp: Canvas tarps were the first type of tarps that were and are widely used around the world. The word tarpaulin itself means a tarred canvas that is pulled over objects by ships. Canvas tarps are environment friendly and hence preferred by a lot of people over synthetic tarps. They are equally durable. The canvas used for the tarp is graded by weight or by number. In this case, the number runs in reverse of the weight. The higher the number, the lighter the tarp.
Vinyl Tarps: These are the more common of the lot and are preferred over canvas tarps owing to its light weight and flexibility. They are also available in a variety of colors and can be moved around easily.
While you are investing in a tarp, it is also worthwhile to invest in a tarp repair kit. A normal kit has a few tools and about 20 to 30 brass grommets. If you are looking to install new grommets, then the tarp repair kit is a must.

How large of a folding knife can I get that is legal to carry everywhere in the U.S.?
That's a tough one, and there really is no right answer. The states have a huge variation on knife laws, and illegality is not always a matter of length. Further, often it is your "intent" and not the knife itself.
But here's what we do know. To my knowledge, the strictest length limit by state is 2" though that is rare. Most often it's 3" and Texas allows up to 5.5".
However, there are several states with no explicit length limit (like Florida or Ohio). These states instead make a case-by-case judgement on your knife and if it is a "weapon-like" knife as opposed to say, a Swiss Army Knife or Xacto knife. Very unpredictable. Double-edged is also not allowed for carry in the majority of states.
Further, some specific locations have total bans on all things sharp and pointy: schools, court houses, airports, and some federal buildings.

Benchmade started in California in the year 1988. Then in 1990 moved to Clackamas Oregon, where it became a leader in the manufacturer of Butterfly knives. Now in 2009 the company Benchmade employs around 150 people and has moved to Oregon City Oregon where they still produce over 90% of the company's knives, and has expanded to making just about every sort of knife that you can think of. Benchmade uses very good quality steel in there knives, and there products are more often then not on the high end of the knife market. Using steel such as 154CM, D2, and CPM S30V steel. Even thought Benchmade makes a good amount of income in the privet market, much of there income comes from military and to law enforcement. Benchmade makes auto, hunting, fishing and the list goes on and on but there balisongs are still at the core of there products.
Benchmade has a tradition of working with world renowned knife makers. Names such as Ernest Emerson, Mel Pardue, mike snodu, Warren Osborne, Allen Elishewitz, and Bob Lum. Names in the knife world mean quality. So if you are thinking about getting a Benchmade knife be confident that it will be a good purchase and you will be more that happy with it. I know that I am total satisfied with mine.

Shore Scuba Diving on Oahu, Drop in Anytime! Some of the most fun that I have as a diver was on Oahu shore diving in Hawaii. Lots of great locations to chose from on Oahu, with 3 of my favorites being OahuÂ’s Portlock very close to Hawaii Kai on the east side, Electric Beach on the west side on the Waianae coast, and Magic Island in Waikiki on the south side of Oahu. Just down the street from the famous Hanauma Bay, Portlock has a great drop in from about 3 meters, what a rush to start your dive off with. When you get into the water you are against a shallow wall that has lots of great muck diving , some of the things to keep an eye out for octopus, leaf scorpions and pipe fish in the cracks.
This site can get rough depending on the wind direction and getting out is sometimes difficult. The parking can be sometimes hard to find here. Finding the street to get into the little park is hard as well you might want to bring a local with you the first time you go there. Electric beach up near Makaha is very easy to find across the street from the Waianae Electric Plant. To get to the diving follow the discharge pipe out from the beach on the left side if you are looking out at the ocean. When you get into around 10 meters of water look under the rocks for male turtles, these can get to be the size of Volkswagens. DonÂ’t touch them unless you have an extra 5000 USD for the fines, as these are a endanger species and are vigorously protected.
This site has a large parking lot, so the car should not be a problem, also has showers which are nice for cleaning your scuba diving equipment of sand that you might pick up on the way into shore. Magic Island is fun, but a little tricky, as you need to be careful getting in. You need to transit out to the dive area following the boat channel and the boats really arenÂ’t expecting to see divers here, so be careful of where you come up, and dive with a dive flag overhead. The reef here has a lot of different type of eels, and all the usual fish that you see in Hawaii. This can be a great night dive watching the eelÂ’s free swimming at night, not very deep, so is OK for new divers. Lots of parking and showers and restrooms are available at this location.
