Okay, so one way or another (goverment probably) you've found yourself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Talk about a bad day huh? Well, don't be too upset about it depending on a few key conditions this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. If the conditions fall into place, you will be able to life a life of luxury during the apocalypse.
There are a few things we need to go over real quick.
1. If you are reading this from the middle of a zombie whorde you should stop reading, and run/fight your way to at least some kind of shelter before reading this article.
2.We need to determine exactly what kind of zombies we are dealing with. In my mind there are three possible zombie types.
a.) Classic Romero Zombie - Slow moving, stupid, pale blueish skin. (best case scenario)
b.) New Dawn of the Dead Zombie - Wicked fast and crazy, skin usually hanging off in chunks.
c.) Trilogy Zombies - Smart, able to communicate and scheme. Normal speed and endurance. (worst case scenario)
Now chances are you have one of the above zombie types. If you have type A we are in luck! They are pretty easy to outsmart and destroy. Shelters constructed will only need moderate protection schemes. If you drew a short straw and ended up with a type B zombie, well things could be worse, but its much more difficult with type B zombies. They can not be easily outran. Shelters will have to be very strong due to the fact that they will hit it with full strength to try and gain entry to your secure compound /brain. Now, if you drew the really short straw (aka, got screwed) then you're up a famous creek whose name i'm not going to mention. Any attempts to build regular shelters will be thwarted before you can really even get any construction done. Your best case scenario would to stumble across some kind of military bunker while you are fleeing for your life, but even then, the outlook is pretty grim.
One last note on zombie types. Its incredibly rare, but not unheard of to draw a really short straw (aka, there were no straws, you got suckered.) and end up with a combo type. A combo type can be any combination of the above types ex - type AC, BC. There is no AB type because they directly contradict each other.
a.) Type AC - You might of caught a small break having type AC over just type C. They are just as intelligent/ cunning, but not nearly as mobile. Take advantage of this when planning an offensive attack.
b.) Type BC - I'm starting to think you either A. Have the worst luck possible, or B. You are making stuff up. While type BC has never been observed in the wild it is possible. This would be absolutely worst case scenario. You have intelligent, incredibly fast and agressive zombies. Your days are numbered my friend.
Now, in order to survive the apocalypse we need the following four things (listed in order of importance.)
1.) Shelter- Vital to survival. Some would argue that a weapon would be the most important. I want you to think about this for a second though. If you have a weapon, you still have no where to hide, but if you have somewhere to hide, you might not need a weapon. Things to look for in a shelter, high ground, walled, no windows or windows with bars, as few entry points as possible, well lit, and as far from major citys as possible.
2.)Weapon - Now we get to have a little fun 
. There are the standard guns blah blah blah. While these are usefull (shotgun above all else), the most useful, easiest to find/construct would be a machete / spear.
With a gun, you run out of bullets but with a machete/spear you never run out of ammo. The machete makes it pretty easy to decapitate zombies which instantly removes the threat, but you have to be close to them. With the Spear, you have to be a little more accurate but you have safety in the distance you can attack from. Using the spear try to aim towards the eye sockets with upward thrust.
3.)Food/water - Some movies make a big deal of this one. While it is vital to survival what is often overlooked is that there will be plenty of food left in houses / supermarkets and water will be virtually everwhere, so as long as you don't have type BC Zombies you'll be just fine.
4.) Helpers - Make sure its people you can trust. Having helpers makes it much easier to remain on the lookout and construct shelters. Helpers can go gather supplies and are expendible if absolutely needed.
Just be smart, run fast, and remember to always have a way out. Save 1 bullet just in case you dont.
