There are some products that are unmistakably made for women; granted that this phone is already named "Diva", the S5150 from Samsung combines fit, form and features to deliver what can only be described as a Ladies' phone.
This is the second device in the Diva series, with the other being the Samsung Diva S7070. Both devices originally debuted when Samsung was doing the Genio/Corby tour and the device was still named Olivia. Now, over month the device has been officially confirmed for a January 2010 release date. Countries to get this device on that month are Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia and Europe. Asia and China will be getting a later release date.
Features for Ladies
When Samsung designed this phone for ladies, they more than think about form and fashion as functionality is a key aspect in this device, with the focus on women's need for secrecy, privacy and of course, poise.
The phone sports an instant "etiquette mode", allowing the lady to swiftly switch the device into silent mode without having to browse through a profile menu. This is very handy when one cannot afford to fish out a mobile phone from a purse that would ruse a companion (like during a personal discussion or during a business appointment).
Another great feature is the "fake call" function. The Samsung S5150 Diva is equipped with a self-ringing feature that would enable ladies to discreetly and politely excuse themselves out of awkward situations or un-necessary functions. Imagine being forced to stay at a dinner party when you have personal errands to run or being obliged to go on a blind date; the fake call feature will give ladies a quick and polite excuse.
Of course, these two are just the tip of the iceberg; the best features are those that support online applications. Most women, after all, connect with their friends in a very special way. They prefer to be up to date on news and happenings even if they are not as equally open. The integrated features for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter enable users to instantly see the latest updates and status changes online.
Specifications
The Diva sports a 2.2 inch TFT screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and can display up to 16 million colors. The screen is not that big, but it does a great job at displaying images and text. The 3.15 mega pixel snapper is perfect for taking those candid photos; and with the help of auto-focus, even busy backgrounds are not a problem. The camera can also take QVGA quality videos as well. The battery is a standard lithium-ion 800 mAh battery that will keep the device running for up to 470 hours on standby and will give you 7 hours of continuous talk time.
GSM Phone
The Samsung S5150 Diva's is a 2G clamshell device that has sufficient hardware capabilities to serve its general purposes. The only thing lacking from this phone is 3G capabilities so that the web integrated applications are easier to access. Uploading photos and checking for updates is considerably slower (though people on congested 3G bandwidths feel the same), and options for connecting the HSPA or even WiFi would have been welcome.
