Nitrox Dive Computer
I need a useful, cheap used dive computer (o2/EAN) to use while I finish my certs. Which are my best bets?
I'm not hurting for money so much as I want to wait until I know more about the diving I will be doing before I put down a thousand dollars or more on a dive computer. I just need a reliable machine that will help me log my dives and keep me informed underwater while I finish up my dive master and instructor certifications. I'm certified EAN so I'd like a computer that handles air and Nitrox. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck in a cheap, easy to use second hand model. Thanks to all who reply!!
If you are going for your dive master cert then you should know this already. But I will say it again and first off the bat. Have all used equipment checked and serviced by a qualified dealer.
Do keep in mind that a computer can be, is considered life support. If your computer goes blank, you can still breathe. But you no longer know how much air you have left, your depth, etc., unless you have a back up on your tank.
I would suggest that you visit Scubadiving do com and check out their gear reviews. Even join the forum, plenty of great people there. Both of these resources will help you to determine what you want. Once you decide, then check with the local dive shops in your area (they usually have reliable used gear). Next, take a look at Leisurepro dot com and eBay.
Leisurepro backs up what they sell, so you are less likely to get junk.
eBay is a buyer beware type of thing. I have gotten plenty of good gear from eBay. And I have gotten burned too. If you use eBay, then do a little checking, email the seller and find out if they are willing to refund if the item is not serviceable, things like that.
